ことの始まりは、一通のメッセージと共に添えられた「一枚の手描きスケッチ」でした。

今回のご依頼は、ゴルフのスコアカードホルダーでした。

市販品ではなかなか満足いくものに出会えないというお客様が、ご自身で理想のレイアウトを書き起こし、私たちに託してくださいました。

オーダーの内容は非常に具体的でした。

• サイズ：縦8.5cm × 横12.5cmのカードに合わせたジャストサイズ
• 機能：ゴルフ場備え付けの鉛筆（長さ約10cm）を中央に収納
• 意匠：カードを固定するコーナーストッパー

しかし、単に図面通りに作るのが私どもの仕事ではありません。

プロの作り手として、使い心地と耐久性をさらに高めるための提案を重ねました。

やり取りの中で、私たちが特にこだわったのは以下のポイントです。

1. 鉛筆ホルダーの向き： 当初の案では折り目に対して垂直でしたが、ホルダーを閉じた際に鉛筆が干渉しないよう、パーツを90度回転させて折り目と並行に配置することを提案しました。これにより、閉じた時のシルエットが劇的にスマートになります。
2. ミリ単位のサイズ設計： カードサイズギリギリで作ると、縫い代の厚みでカードが収まらなくなるリスクがあります。そのため、出し入れのしやすさを考慮し、数ミリのゆとりを持たせたリサイズ案を提示しました。
3. ストッパーの形状変更： 角を留めるパーツを、よりホールド感が高く美しい「長方形または台形」の変形タイプへアップデート。1辺のみを縫い合わせる仕様にすることで、カードの着脱をスムーズにしました。

ご希望に合ったカラーサンプルの中から最終的に選ばれたのは、深みのあるネイビーのイタリアンレザーでした。

当初はグレーの案もありましたが、光の加減による色の見え方を細かく確認し合い、納得のいく色味を決定しました。

お客様からも「このリサイズ案で了解いたしました」と快諾をいただき、まさにお客様のアイデアとottomanの技術が融合した瞬間でした。

Transforming a Sketch into Reality: The Story of Creating the Ultimate Scorecard Holder

In 2026, ottoman is diving deeper into our core philosophy, “Artistry in Partnership.” Today, we are proud to share a record of a very special custom order that embodies this spirit.

It all began with a single message and a handwritten sketch sent to us.

The request was for a custom golf scorecard holder. Having struggled to find the perfect item on the market, the customer had drawn their own ideal layout and entrusted us to bring it to life.

The specifications were very precise:

• Sized perfectly to fit an 8.5cm x 12.5cm card.

• Central storage for standard 10cm pencils provided at golf courses.

• Corner stoppers to keep the card securely in place.

However, our role at ottoman is not merely to follow a blueprint. As professional craftsmen, we offered several suggestions to further enhance the item’s usability and durability.

During our collaboration, we focused on several key refinements:

Pencil Holder Orientation While the original plan had the pencil sitting perpendicular to the fold, we suggested rotating the part 90 degrees to align it parallel with the crease. This ensures the pencil does not interfere when the holder is closed, resulting in a significantly sleeker profile.

Precision Sizing Creating a holder to the exact dimensions of the card risks the card not fitting once the thickness of the seam allowance is factored in. Therefore, we proposed a resized plan with a few millimeters of extra clearance to ensure smooth insertion and removal.

Refined Stopper Design We updated the corner stoppers to a "trapezoidal or rectangular" shape for a more elegant look and a firmer hold. By sewing only one side, we made it much easier for the user to swap cards in and out.

The Elegance of Italian Navy Leather After reviewing various color samples, the customer selected a deep navy Italian leather. While a grey option was initially considered, we carefully discussed how the colors shift under different lighting to ensure the final choice was exactly what they envisioned. When the customer replied, “I approve this resized plan,” it marked the perfect fusion of their vision and ottoman’s technical expertise.
